The Future Is Efficient: Why We Must Rethink Urban Energy

The Future Is Efficient: Why We Must Rethink Urban Energy

Why should we learn more about energy-efficient cities?

→ Because as urban populations grow, so does energy demand, and the way we design, power, and move through our cities will define our climate future.

📚 INHABITAT Project includes a full 9 ECTS course on Energy Efficient Cities, starting in Semester B (Winter 2025-2026).

In this module, students explore:
Key technologies and policies behind renewable energy systems (solar, wind, bioenergy)
Urban energy applications: heating, cooling, and electricity
Smart transportation systems: communication protocols (V2V, V2I, V2X), autonomous driving, and fleet optimization
AI-driven solutions for energy-efficient routing, traffic management, and public utilities
Socioeconomic perspectives on how energy systems can shape just, sustainable cities

Why does it matter?
Because cities account for over two-thirds of global energy consumption. Designing smarter transport, cleaner energy grids, and efficient infrastructure is essential for sustainability, affordability, and resilience.
